The mPwr admin portal is a web-based dashboard designed to empower app administrators with comprehensive oversight and management capabilities for the mPwr mobile app. By leveraging intuitive data visualization and user management tools, the admin portal promises to streamline operations, monitor key metrics, and ensure the smooth functioning of the mPwr ecosystem. This case study delves into the design process, showcasing how user-centered design principles were implemented to create an efficient and user-friendly experience for app administrators.

As the lead Product Designer for the mPwr admin portal, I spearheaded the design process, encompassing the following key phases:

• Discovery & Requirements Analysis: Employed stakeholder interviews and requirement gathering to define administrative needs, dashboard functionalities, and key performance indicators.

• Information Architecture & Wireframing: Established the dashboard's information hierarchy and crafted initial design concepts.

• High-Fidelity Mockup Creation: Developed interactive, polished prototypes for stakeholder review and validation.

The primary challenge was designing an admin portal that provides comprehensive control and insights while maintaining simplicity and ease of use. The portal needed to:

• Visualize Key Metrics: Present crucial data on user growth, revenue, and platform activity in an easily digestible format.

• Facilitate User Management: Enable admins to create, edit, delete, and manage user accounts efficiently.

• Ensure Platform Integrity: Provide tools for monitoring and moderating user activity, including certification verification and account suspension.

The goal was to create a powerful yet intuitive admin dashboard that would enable efficient management of the mPwr platform.

The design process began with in-depth discussions with the mPwr team to gain a comprehensive understanding of administrative needs and operational priorities. Key questions addressed included:

• Key Performance Indicators: What metrics are crucial for monitoring?

• User Management Requirements: What level of control do administrators need over user accounts?

• Data Granularity: What time frames are important for data analysis (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.)?

• Access Control: How should different levels of administrative access be managed?

A review of best practices in dashboard design and admin interfaces was conducted to inform the design process.

Key Insights from Requirement Analysis

1. Dashboard Metrics:
   • User growth (new and total users for trainers and gyms)
   • Revenue breakdown (by user type and time period)
   • Platform activity (booked, completed, and canceled sessions)
   • User engagement (active vs. inactive users)
2. User Management:
   • Comprehensive user list with filtering options (by user type, location, etc.)
   • Ability to create, edit, and delete user accounts
   • Tools for viewing and verifying trainer certifications
3. Data Visualization:
   • Flexible time frame selection (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly)
   • Clear distinction between new and overall metrics
4. Administrative Actions:
   • Account suspension capabilities
   • Cancellation monitoring for both trainers and gyms

Based on the gathered requirements and insights, the design phase focused on creating an intuitive and efficient admin experience. Key considerations included:

• Dashboard Layout: Organizing key metrics and actions in a logical, easily scannable layout.

• Data Visualization: Implementing clear and informative charts and graphs for key metrics.

• User Management Interface: Designing an efficient system for viewing and managing user accounts.

• Navigation Structure: Creating an intuitive menu system for accessing different administrative functions.

The high-fidelity mockups were presented to key stakeholders and potential admin users for feedback. Here's how the testing process unfolded:

• Stakeholder Review: Detailed walkthroughs with the mPwr management team to ensure alignment with business goals.
• Admin User Testing: Simulated admin tasks were conducted with potential users to evaluate usability and efficiency.
• Feedback Analysis & Iteration: User feedback was meticulously documented and analyzed. The design was iteratively refined to address pain points and enhance overall usability.

Key Learnings from User Testing:

• Data Granularity: Users appreciated the flexible time frame options but requested additional custom date range selection.
• User Management: The comprehensive user list was well-received, with suggestions for bulk action capabilities (e.g., bulk suspend/reactivate).
• Dashboard Customization: Some users expressed interest in the ability to customize which metrics appear on their main dashboard view.

Addressing Feedback & Final Design

Based on the feedback received, several refinements were made to the admin portal design:

• Enhanced Date Selection: Added custom date range picker for more flexible data analysis.
• Bulk User Actions: Implemented functionality for performing actions on multiple user accounts simultaneously.
• Dashboard Customization: Introduced options for admins to select and arrange their preferred metrics on the main dashboard.
